Better Meds 3.20

With Better Meds 3.20, we’ve continued to strengthen these connected workflows. This release introduces support for Mental Health Act consent forms, expands the capabilities of Meds Mobile, improves visibility of conflicts across drug dictionary versions, and enhances interoperability through new FHIR APIs, all helping clinicians work more safely and efficiently within a single platform.

Bringing Mental Health Act consent into Better Meds

For clinicians working in Wales, managing Mental Health Act consent forms has traditionally meant relying on paper documentation or systems outside the electronic prescribing workflow.

Better Meds 3.20 changes that by introducing digital support for CO2 and CO3 consent forms directly within the platform. Clinicians can create, manage and maintain consent forms without leaving Better Meds, making documentation more accessible and reducing administrative burden.

Most importantly, consent documentation is connected with prescribing. Once a consent form is active, clinical decision support automatically alerts prescribers if a medication falls outside the scope of that patient’s consent, providing an additional layer of safety while helping organisations remain compliant with Mental Health Act requirements.

Extending Meds Mobile at the point of care

Mobility is becoming an increasingly important part of medicines management. With this release, Meds Mobile continues to evolve, enabling clinicians to complete more of their daily workflow wherever care is delivered.

Witness authentication is now available when recording medication administration, ensuring that administrations requiring a second clinician follow the same governance and authentication process as in the Better Meds desktop application. Authentication can be completed using a unique code entered manually or scanned via QR code, supporting secure and compliant administration.

We’ve also expanded Meds Mobile with direct access to Better Studio forms. Clinicians can now view completed patient assessments and complete available forms from within the mobile app, reducing the need to switch devices and making patient information available wherever it’s needed.

Improving medication governance in Meds Config

Medication dictionaries change continuously, and understanding the impact of those changes over time is essential for safe configuration.

Previously, conflicts generated during drug dictionary imports were reviewed individually for each update. Better Meds 3.20 introduces a consolidated view of unresolved conflicts and warnings across all imports, giving configuration teams a clearer picture of outstanding issues.

Users can also export a comprehensive Excel report containing all current conflicts and warnings, making it easier to review changes, support governance processes and prioritise configuration work.

Expanding interoperability

Interoperability remains a key focus of Better Meds, and version 3.20 further expands the platform’s FHIR capabilities.

This release extends the existing FHIR R4 APIs with pharmacist review status, introduces new endpoints to support outpatient prescribing, and expands inpatient APIs to include day case prescriptions. These enhancements enable richer integration with surrounding clinical systems and support more connected care pathways.

Alongside these changes, we’ve introduced several usability improvements, including displaying comments for individual allergens within the allergies popover in the Better Meds patient databar and showing VTM prescribing units within Meds Config.

Continuing to strengthen connected medication management

Better Meds 3.20 delivers meaningful improvements across the medication management journey. From digital Mental Health Act documentation and enhanced mobile workflows to stronger medication governance and expanded interoperability, each enhancement helps reduce friction for clinicians and brings more of the medication process into one connected platform.

Support your teams with more efficient medication workflows, wherever care happens.
