With this release, Better continues to lead the way in delivering open, flexible, and secure digital health solutions that meet the evolving needs of healthcare providers worldwide.

One of the biggest improvements is major performance upgrades of the Simple Tasks, which are designed to boost performance, flexibility, and compatibility. These updates position Simple Tasks as an essential tool for healthcare systems striving for operational excellence and improved data management. Key updates are:

  • Simple Tasks now requires Java 17, offering a modernised foundation with long-term support.
  • With OpenSearch replacing the existing indexing system, users benefit from better scalability and performance.
  • Optimised AQL Query performance ensures faster and more efficient data retrieval.
  • Improved memory consumption for population queries enables seamless handling of large datasets.
  • A new real-time data-streaming feature facilitates instant responsiveness for dynamic use cases.
  • The addition of Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) to role-based security policies offers granular access management tailored to specific organisational needs. .

Besides that, the Auditor module now integrates OpenSearch for improved audit data indexing and retrieval. This feature allows users to navigate large volumes of records with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Audit data is processed in a format optimised for the auditing module in the Better Portal, ensuring seamless workflow integration.

The shift towards event-driven architecture marks a milestone in system design, enabling scalable and highly responsive solutions. Data streaming in Simple Tasks enables real-time data access and processing, and Kafka integration for the Auditor server improves the consumption and publication of audit data through Kafka. The Demographics server and EHR server now support sending audit events to Kafka, with plans to expand this capability across additional components in future releases.

The latest upgrades to the Better platform reflect our dedication to empowering healthcare organisations with future-ready technology,” said Matija Polajnar, Better Platform Technical Lead. “From better security to real-time data streaming, these updates pave the way for scalable, event-driven healthcare systems that deliver superior outcomes.”
