Data Modeller (FHIR and openEHR)

We are looking for a Data Modeller to help shape how health data is structured and exchanged across systems!

This is where you come in. We’re looking for a Data Modeller (FHIR and openEHR) – someone who understands, or is eager to master, how clinical concepts, relationships and workflows are represented in data, and who wants to use that knowledge to make health information flow consistently and safely between systems.
You’ll support the design and development of interoperability and clinical data solutions on the Better Platform: producing the FHIR profiles, resources and mappings that allow health data to be shared across systems, and growing your openEHR modelling skills – contributing to archetypes and templates as you develop into the wider Better modelling approach. You’ll work across active customer projects, engaging with clinical, technical and non-clinical stakeholders to translate requirements into clear, reusable models.
Skills and expertise you need to excel in this position:
- Education and background: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Medicine, Nursing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- FHIR: Proficiency in FHIR (resources, profiles, and extensions), or a strong technical aptitude and willingness to acquire it quickly.
- openEHR: A willingness to learn openEHR clinical data modelling (archetypes and templates) and to work towards independent proficiency over time.
- Data mapping and integration: Some experience with data mapping or integration between systems, or the willingness to develop it.
- Clinical terminology: Awareness of clinical coding and terminology standards (e.g. SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10).
- Healthcare domain knowledge: A good understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare interoperability, and relevant data protection and regulatory requirements.
- Technical skills: Experience with SQL or scripting languages for data manipulation, or the willingness to acquire it.
- Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data models and standards to both technical and clinical audiences, and proficiency in English.
- Collaboration: A self-motivated and collaborative approach, with the ability to build trust with customers and colleagues.
- Organisation: Good organisational skills to manage several tasks, projects and stakeholders at once, delivering work on time and within scope.
How will you show up and shape success, one day at a time?
- Data modelling and interoperability: Contribute to data modelling and interoperability work for customers and internal teams, with a focus on FHIR, supporting the modelling or integration workstream on medium-complexity projects.
- FHIR design: Design and build FHIR profiles, extensions, and mappings, defining how data is exchanged with external systems.
- Data mappings: Produce and maintain data mappings from sending systems to support integration of models into applications and analytics.
- openEHR development: Develop openEHR modelling skills over time, contributing to archetypes and templates with the support of more experienced colleagues.
- Stakeholder engagement: Engage with clinical, technical, and non-clinical stakeholders to gather requirements and represent modelling and interoperability in implementation and review meetings.
- Documentation: Maintain FHIR artefacts, mappings, and modelling documentation in a dedicated repository, ensuring they are accessible and shared with the team.
- Quality and testing: Revise models based on stakeholder feedback and testing outcomes, and support testing of data models, forms, and interfaces together with QA testers.
- Standards and improvement: Follow and help improve modelling and interoperability standards and conventions, and suggest improvements to internal processes and tooling.
- Knowledge sharing and presales: Contribute to training materials, workshops, and external interoperability communities, and support pre-sales activities such as effort estimations, demonstration models, and tender responses.
