Better by Marand CEO, Tomaž Gornik, will be speaking tomorrow at the Development and Management of Patient Registries Data event in Athens, hosted by the Hellenic Ministry of Health.

Hellenic Ministry of Health is hosting the Development and Management of Patient Registries Data event which will take part on Friday 11 January in the National School of Public Health in Athens, Greece. The main topics at the event will be health registry systems, real-world evidence and decision-making in health, and the current situation with patient registries in Greece.

In the Amphitheatre hall at 12.15 local time, Gornik, who is also Co-chair of the openEHR Foundation, will give a presentation entitled Clinical Data Modelling and Governance, Best Practices from Norway, Slovenia and the UK. He will speak about the openEHR concept, vendor-independent data, separation of content and technology, and open domain-driven platforms for developing flexible e-health systems.

The use cases to be presented include the 100.000 genomes project in the UK, the 100 % EHR adoption in the Norwegian public hospital system, and the Slovenian interoperability backbone – the national infrastructure for exchanging and storing clinical documents and structured health data.

The openEHR approach is based on open standards and aims to transform health and social care by separating applications from clinical data. Such approach, which enables shared care records, is also known as the postmodern EHR. It has been recognised by Gartner Group in a recent research note, stating that truly effective and sustainable open architectures would need capacity for vendor-neutral data persistence, such as utilising a common scheme or set of archetypes and rules for managing structured and unstructured data.

Better by Marand’s vision for healthcare IT is coined as "Integrate. Open. Innovate." Better Platform™ is well aligned with this vision as it uses IHE-based standards to integrate existing devices, systems and data. By storing data in an open, vendor-neutral format it enables ecosystems of vendors to innovate. This approach is fuelling next-generation solutions known as the Postmodern EHR.
